is it likely to be any different to the present group? I am not in
favour of making the name any longer or more complex (Christchurch and
Neighbouring Districts GNU/Linux, Hurd, BSD and other Free/Libre
Operating Systems amd Software Users, Supporters and Friends Group?)

Register the present group with GNU by all means. We are all GNU users,
may as well show the flag!
