Any problems with using it via Linux?
No. Configure IP is all that's required.
why do they say windows is required?
I didn't see that ref, & didn't ask, sorry.
They have lots of plans incl hotspots around town, which could require
ppop in future (Linux ok there?) but not now.
what is ppop? (googled, found nothing relevant)
Apparently, it's the authentication protocol used for Telecom ADSL
logon(?) I said that I'd heard of ppoe on Linux, but that drew a blank.
The guy from Yobbo is investigating this change presently, not
WirelessWeb's Brent with whom I spoke.

You're in Oxford, right? (Someone from there was enquiring re broadband
options recently.) If so, connection is possible by line of sight to the
Port Hills. Some extra equipment may be necessary, but it sounds like
you'd be up for the standard $395 connection fee - if it tests ok. They
meet the equipment cost, I believe.
what is the equipment. I have plenty of 802 11b gear including cards
suitable for external aerials.
The recommended cards may be found here:

I have to enquire further re which one it is..
Local-made antennae are ok.
A Client Accesspoint increases receptivity for extra $.
