This modem uses an Intel 536EP chip. Be warned that Intel in the past has had a 6 months delay in getting this driver up to scratch with new Linex kernel versions; this delay is the reason why at least SUSE has left the driver off some of their distributions rather than causing mental illness by shipping a driver which doesn't work properly. For example, 10.1 doesn't contain it, but does contain the smartlink-softmodem one (and not the ltmodem one either). Either there's there's some other new reason not to include those drivers, or it's not looking too good with current kernels' losemodem[1] support. I really couldn't make up my mind which chip to recommend currently, except that it's not conexant. An external modem looks increasingly sensible. Speedcom VD56SP $65? Volker [1] Calling it winmodem just doesn't seem to be appropriate, sorry. -- Volker Kuhlmann is list0570 with the domain in header http://volker.dnsalias.net/ Please do not CC list postings to me.
