Install M/S Windows first.
Be sure to make 2 partitions, make C: large enough to take windows plus any
data that you may create or install. Create another partition to use the rest
of the disk. You should end up with Windows on your C: drive, and the other
partition ( D: ) empty.

Now using the Linux install disk remove the second partition D: or, in
Linux-speak, /dev/hda2, which you created during the installation of Windows,
and then install Linux in the default configuration. This usually takes 2
partitions, one for a swap area of some hundreds of Megs, and the second one
taking the rest of the disk. You might care to set up a third one formatted
with a VFAT file system and large enough to be a 'letter-box' to transfer
files between Windows and Linux.

Please consult the documentation which came with your Linux distribution for
further details as they are all different.
