I've been hiring for a large company in Wellington over the last few months, and I have some more to do next year. For the low-grade jobs, I'm seeing qualifications as being important; not necessarily the degree level, but practical courses. For mid-range jobs, I tend to look for real industry acredidations (i.e. Cisco courses, specific application qualifications) as well as experience. High-level jobs need to demonstrate significant experience; qualifications rarely figure here unless they are a strict requirement for a specific job. On the other hand, we have to use a limited set of personnel agencies, and they should be interviewing basically every CV that comes to them regardless, and pass on to us only the ones that they believe have a chance of being suitable. If you're asking "should I study or work?" ... you might be asking the wrong crowd of people. You need to talk to people 2-5 years older than you, and see what experiences they have. -jim
