Automatix looked like a really good idea, but it was written by microsofties by the look of it. Totally screws up shared libraries and dependencies down the line. install the c++ compiler first, and binutils if necessary, and then try again. You also need the kernel source/headers installed if it isn't already, although apt-get install vmware-server should do all of this for you. Steve
