I've found 8.0 to be neither buggy nor unstable in most aspects.  Previous
releases of Red Hat, Mandrake, and SuSE had problems building both the HDF 4
and HDF 5 data file libraries we use at JPL for satellite image processing 
and storage.  Both those libraries and the attendant utilites built and tested
correctly under 8.0.

The Abiword fonts are all monospaced, and I've not yet managed to correct that,
however.  OpenOffice works quite nicely.  The MP3 issue is going to get a lot
of attention (relates to legal issues with potential to cost any company that
the morons things they might squeeze some cash out of).  The "compromise"
desktop that is installed by default will annoy both the devoute KDE _AND_
Gnome users, but it appears relatively straight-forward to remove if you
must.  Personally, I just install XFCE and avoid the whole issue. 8^)
