wu-ftp kinda bites in that it has no ls sometimes. Try putting ls or
linking ls to /whatever/ftp/bin. if that seems in order look at the
lslong,lsshort,lsplain options in the ftpaccess file, sometines these
can fix the problem...
lslong /home/ftp/bin/ls -la
