Does this plug into a USB port? I am using a dazzle smartcard reader without problem. I have usb_core, EHCI and UHCI all built into my kernel (2.4.19) as well as usb_storage.
Then I mount it as /dev/sda1 -t vfat /mnt/camera (your device may be different-- check the kernel messages for USB device) And then I can access the photos.
