I use dvgrab or Kino to capture the Video/Audio like Raw DV material then I
process the material with mencoder, mjpeg tools or transcode, etc...

I connect the Canopus ADVC-100 to my FireWire card.

I am not sure if this answer your question.

I am not an expert in Video so if you need more information/details
maybe it would be a good idea to ask it at the mjpeg, transcode or
mplayer mail lists.
There is where I got most the information about how to capture, rip and
convert DV Raw material to Divx or SVCD.
