Ok, I cranked up xftp on the WS and ftp'd the 300MB directory over to the laptop. It FLEW by.
So, that left ncftp on this WS as the culprit.
The ncftp version SHOWS 3.0.4, so I grabbed the latest, 3.1.5, and compile it and install.
VOLIA !!! Now it works. Everthing flys by.
I guess that's one for the sxs, ncftp 3.0.4 has some problems.
