A lot better from reading the above, thanks.

I suspect that the greatest majority of us here on this mailer, actually
'know' a great deal more about Linux : - under the covers, than we think we
do. Since a large block of us come from a COL 2.x distro, where all of us,
without exception, were forced to upgrade, tweak, tarball, rpm etc. Our
preferences per any given distro, are not going to be easily pleased. We
'know' to a lesser or larger extent how things are supposed to work (config
files, startups, boot managers, inittabs). While we might not be experts say
in Sendmail, we've got a damn good idea when things don't look right. Eg your
remark about SuSe forcing runlevels, is spot on, for us, that is not on. The
point being, you're already talking to an educated audience.

I reckon the only distro thart would actually satisfy me now, is one where it
gets me to a command prompt, asap. Ie, it does all the basic (and I mean for
god's sake, BASIC) stuff like installing lilo correctly, shovelling all the
rpm somewhere, loading up kde (or xfce), reboots, and then lets ME decide how
I want ppp daemon to run. In fact, the less script and wierdo config files,
the better. I can make my own weirdo scripts far better than any distro can.
I am an expert at stuffing it up betterer.
