This isn't what you want to hear, but I'll offer it anyway... 8-)
If you are building plots in batch, there is a rather nice open-source
program called xmgrace that has facilities built in to place multiple plots
on a single page. I've played with gnuplot, and found it clunky, non-intuitive,
and I thought the documentation s*cked. Xmgrace is not perfect, but I have
found it much easier to use, and it make beautiful plots, publication
quality. They also have a pretty helpful e-mail list.
