I've searched through various howtos, SxS's, linuxprinting.org archives,
XFree archives, etc, etc . . . . . . I've yet to come up with a solution.
I've also posted around the newsgroups and lists, with no responses. So it
goes sometimes.

Running eWS 3.1 with the 2.4.7 kernel, CUPS 1.1.6-14, KDE 2.1.2, Ghostscript
5.50, QT2 2.3.0.

The problem: lpr <any filename> first halts the printer (HP 812C) and the
amber light blinks. Pressing it, or if I just wait about 15 minutes, I get a
staircased font error output. gv <any filename> gives a much more detailed
error msg regarding fonts. Abiword prints, as does Konqueror, but no other
gui does.

XF86Config font paths look OK, as does /etc/X11/fs/config. At least, they
look OK as far as I can see. Things I've read refer to various
progs/scripts, xfstt, xft, xfs, etc., some of which exist on this Caldera
install and some of which do not. References also to various files,
Xauthority, Xresources, xinitrc, etc., again, some are here and some aren't.

Lastly, when logged in at runlevel 3, startx doesn't start X - just a
frozen screen until I <ctrl-c> out. startkde gives a screenful of error
messages. Related to the above? runlevel 5 starts KDEperfectly, though.

If I included the error messages, this would go on for pages, If possible,
pointers just on where to start looking greatly appreciated. I'm lost in a
morass here.
