Odd. Not only are you not required to watch this, you are discouraged from
doing so. If you pass near the square where this happens (one day a week
at the same time), you do run the risk of having the crowd push you
forward to see it. Just to get a reaction from you. This is why westerners
are cautioned to stay clear of the area at that time.

If you were the victim of the crime, perhaps you would be present.

In all my time in Saudi Arabia, I have never witnessed this.
