locate uses a database it rebuilds, usually from a cron job.  You can find the 
script called by the cron job and add to the directories that are excluded from 
the database when it's built.  Cannot remember where this is in SuSE, but 
Caldera keeps it in /etc/cron.d/lib/, called 'updatedb' or something like that.
