Okkkk, I just noticed this thread and at the risk of jumping into the middle and messing everyone up...here's what I have working albiet on a Redhat system.
System (no native SCSI...only ide): - a ide cd writer on Slave Master - a standard ide cd drive on Slave Slave (not a writer) - a standard ide hard drive on both Master Master and Master Slave I have a line in lilo.conf that says append="hdc=ide-scsi hdd=ide-scsi" I have the following lines in modules.conf options ide-cd ignore=hda options ide-cd igorne=hdb alias scd0 sr_mod alias scd1 sr_mod pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi pre-install sr_mod modprobe ide-scsi pre-install ide-scsi modprobe ide-cd alias scsi_hostadaptor ide-scsi There may be other better ways but this works for me. Both drives are happy being hda and hdb. The cd writer answers to scd0 and the regular cd is scd1. cdrecord -scanbus reports that my cd writer is on scsi dev 0 and the regular cd drive is on scsi dev 1.
