I believe you are right. And quietly commission a number of studies by "independent labs/consultants" that test the "other OS" under conditions and specs that favour your OS and place the other at a disadvantage. The use your enormous influence in the media (including some you own e.g. MSNBC) to favourably and 'credibly' present these studies as the real bottom line truth. Introduce doubt among those who don't have the technical savvy to know that it is bullsh*t. The doubt should be based upon core values that the mainstream values (Remember 'Linux is unpatriotic and threatens the American Way'?).
