man, what an assumption, you're using Ubuntu, so Network Manager should be able to at least do something, you'll need to setup dialup with in, try right clicking the "wireless" icon in the tasktray and edit the connection setting, the window that pops up should have a dialup tab, from there you can setup your dialup (I haven't had dialup in years so I can't help you there) I know there's a couple of problems like having to use windows drivers with a wrapper if you have a "winmodem"
