Looks like my device is the 2007 one with P/N 861464.
Meanwhile I tested it on a new openSUSE 11.0 system which has a newer
kernel and Skype worked their w/o error messages.
Ekiga still prints out the failed messages above but also worked as far
as I can see.
And also tried a 32bit system where everything seems to work so my guess
is that there is either something missing or broken in openSUSE's 10.3
64bit kernel to run Skype with this cam.
Thanks and I'll upgrade to the newer distribution version soon.
