In practice I expect some of the camera to have firmware bugs in their still image implementation, as the still image function probably gets less tested than video streaming. I haven't tested the still image function on any of the webcams in the list so I can't really tell you which one will work the best. I suppose your best bet would be to go for a well-known brand.
