Oh yes that reminds me! According to the iPL team, the aupd piece of the firmware is in fact a piece of the update utility, and the diagonostic mode changed for me as well, so if you put 2 and 2 together, if we could utilitize aupd we might be able to get the bootloader code off of the flash rom, seeing as it can access it. Just a thought?
