This is true, if you're using an Applet (not an application)
however, if you wanted to use a different machine as your
web server, a simple proxy will allow you to forward the
TN5250 across to your AS/400.

Hmmm... I haven't tried the "AS400 Telnet Applet" from
modernminds.com, but, I am running Navigator 4.61 on RedHat 6.1
and its Java 1.1.5, I've got Navigator 4.5 on FreeBSD, which
is also running 1.1.5, and Navigator 4.7 on Windows, which is
also running 1.1.5.

Do you mean Java 1.2? AFAIK, Netscape has been running one
version or another of Java 1.1 since Navigator 4.0 came out...

As a suggestion, if you can't get anywhere with Netscape, you
might try Sun's JDK (Java Development Kit) which comes with a
program called "appletviewer" that can be used to run Java applets.
This, at least, should be available in a very new version of Java,
since its directly from Sun.

Good Luck!
