There are some things that I feel more strongly about in this way than
others. One good example is some metal bands I listen to. It would be
nice for them to be more popular and whatnot, but in order for them to
do so, they would really have to water down their sound, because the
general opinion of the listening public doesn't change that quickly.
I don't think this is the case with Linux. I expect that the reason
people are moving over to Linux is due more to forces external to Linux
than internal changes. People getting sick of Microsoft. People
looking for better, cheaper software. People getting more
computer-savvy. Sure, Linux has made some strides in usability, but I
don't think that is the real driving force here. I expect Linux to stay
Linux for a long while, underground or not.
