Howdy folks,
First of all, I want to say thanks a lot to all of you
who follow this list and help out those of us who have problems.
You guys really are great. Myself, for instance, I am a lover of
Linux- I love the OS, but strictly speaking, I am a user. So the
help is needed!
As well... let me wax philosophical for a moment. As time passes,
it definitely seems like Linux is becoming
more and more popular. For obvious reasons.
However, during my 30 some-odd years, I have witnessed quite a few
really cool and interesting things get embraced by the mainstream
and then.... become patently uncool, lifeless, and bland. For
instance, remember when the internet was an underground phenomenon?
Wasn't that fun!? I can just imagine Linux going completely
mainstream and then...... *something* changes. Maybe people start
writing Linux viruses. Or maybe some evil corporation monopolizes
the market and then for *some* reason, we are all forced to use some
garbage Linux version, if only because we need to do so to interact
with the world. Well that's a little far-fetched. I don't know
what it would be.... but *something* would change. Mainstream
acceptance of something cool and interesting never bodes well.
Anyone have any thoughts on the matter????????
That aside, I have a very simple technical question. Running
Fedora Core3, how do I permanently modify the /etc/fstab file?
Every time I need my user account to use my floppy, I have to go in
and edit it from my root account. It's annoying.
At the top of the /etc/fstab, it mentions that to permanently
modify /etc/fstab you need to use another file (whose name I can't
remember... 'fstab-<???>'). I checked the man page of that file,
but it said that it is never run from a shell and that it is only
run by the HAL daemon. I don't know what that means.
Can anyone give me some advice? I just want to stop adding "user"
every stinkin' time!
