Unfortunately, recordable DVDs aren't as simple as CDs. There are two formats, DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs. When recording a DVD+R, the recorder can pick up a burn from any specific point on the disc, so it will never suffer from buffer underruns. These discs need growisofs, which is in the dvd+r-tools package. DVD-Rs work much like CD-Rs in that you need to make an image of the disc on your hard drive, then burn it to the DVD. These should be recordable using the same software as CDs.
