It varies a lot depending on whether you are running KDE, Gnome, or some 
other windows manager, like fvwm.

You have to locate your *.pdf reader (this also varies from one distro 
to the next), then you have to locate the executable for that app 
(usually in /usr/bin) using whatever sort of schema your windows manager 
has.

In the meantime, just find your *.pdf reader and start it, then use Open 
, and navigate to the file you want to open.

Again... this varies from one windows manager to the next.

I usually just create icons on my desktop, or call the executable from a 
command prompt.
