Sounds to me like you are describing Windows... Fits on 1 CD (SP1),
has a GUI, connects to the net with ANYTHING, has a ton of drivers,
not a lot of office apps (until you pay extra for them). As for Linux?
Ubuntu or Freespire/Linspire can do the things you describe, but when
you get your linux pc and start downloading games and apps... will you
be able to install them? Freespire/Linspire make that easy with CNR
and Ubuntu makes it easy with repositories and apt-get.
