Well your language was a little strong but the aim was good. I wonder if
Sengupta had ISP permission to spread his service around without protection.

You DO bloody well mind running an open relay. Your IP (or possibly the
whole netblock) will soon land on various DNSBLs, which will be
incentive enough for your ISP to apply a big LART on you. Your users
may be able to send mail from everywhere on the internet, but sure as
hell not to one of my mail servers, or, for that matter, a majority of
mail servers on the net.
 
This config of yours might last some time - until either your ISP takes
the IP away from you, or the college decide they would rather have a
real admin run their servers.
