1. i checked the FAQ (great FAQ, even if it didn't answer my question
this time).

2. i checked the "files" section at the group's webpage on yahoogroups.

3. i searched the archive

4. i also googled, but got swamped with info. what i did look up,
didn't seem too helpful.

doing all the above i didn't find an answer to my problem so i'm
posting now.

my question is, i want to set up linux on a spare computer for the
express purpose of watching (legitimately owned by me) DVD's. some are
copy-protected, some are not.

the ones that are NOT copy-protected view ok. i'm having problems
with the copy-protected ones (of course).

i know that i have to download some kind of driver/CODECS, but i'm not
exactly sure which one or how many. i also would like to know the URL
of a safe site that would have the needed drivers/CODECS (assuming
that places like freshmeat and distrowatch do not have them.

thanks for your help,
j
