roy : modify your /etc/fstab in ubuntu (google the right options) so it will
mount your sata drive with root permission to modify.

Zakk : you need to be more specify regarding the problems. most likely that
whatever distro that you used, it failed / doesnt have the sata driver in the
kernel or you need to input specific boot command to enable the sata support.

Linux is not the same in the way that it handles file systems.You have to do
more configuring with some. I have an SATA drive and have had trouble with
Fedora in the past, but the latest version installed fine.

 Distros that have good hardware support are SimplyMEPIS (which I would avoid
for the time being as they are still in BETA for the latest Debian based
release) and PCLinuxOS. I have Ubuntu 7.04, MEPIS pre-BETA and PCLinuxOS
installed on separate partitions of an IDE drive and Windows XP on a separate
SATA drive that came with my machine. In all three distros the SATA drive shows
and mounts fine. Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS give read-only access to the Windows
drive, but MEPIS allows full read-write access by default. I can write to the
drive as root under PCLinuxOS, but not under Ubuntu. I am sure that I could
work around this if I cared, but I don't because I have loads of HD space.

 I suspect that if you try the Live disks from MEPIS or PCLinuxOs that you will
not have a problem with your hardware because I have a similar chipset and
SATA. My BIOS is HP and has some funky peculiarities, so you should have less
problem than I did.

 Subject: [LINUX_Newbies] Installing linux on a SATA hard drive.

 Hi All!!

 I just build myself a new computer. It has a SATA hard drive, and I am have
trouble getting Linux

 to see the HD. XP installed without a problem. But I hate XP, and I can't get
Linux to see it.

 I have tried to install Open SuSE, Ubuntu, Red Hat, and more! My specs are:

 MB = Biostar T7025-M2

 CPU = AMD X2 4000

 HD = 320 GB WD SATA

 Any help would be great! Thank you for your time,

 -Zakk
