Hello Roy you wrote:

being on the leading edge. The distro is 7 or 8 months old and the
kernel was probably not a recent release to begin with. I hope that
they have improved in this respect, but I doubt it. When I last used
Xandros they still were using 2.4xx a year after most distros had been
using 2.6xx.

Thanks for taking the time to post. Have some information concerning
the version........ Went to Networks, clicked on help, as suggested by
xandros to get information about OS. Here's what I found Xandros
(build 2006 -06 -13 20:19 Rev 2.3)

Then went to Launch - Control Center for Linux Kernel Version
displayed as Release.......KDE version 3.4.2, Linux, Release -
2.6.18-doc-smp - machine i686 . I really don't know what to make of this??

is old and the hardware is new it is like using a computer that is
old. The distro cannot recognize something that as far as it knows
does not exist.

I purchased the Edition Summer of 2006. Had to reinstall several times
between Dec 2007 & Jan 2008. Downloaded & installed the new & upgrades
applications from their Network Manager as I went along. The Xandros
Printer Driver lists Epson CX8400 but does not work at all.

I would update the kernel and CUPS/Foomatic to the latest version in
your repositories and go from there.

I'm going to take your advice & see if I can update the Linux Kernel
First. Have been trying to get some answers & solutions from Xandros &
Various Forums but have run into a learning curve that is beyond me.
So this will be a challenge for this old senior newbie.

The Linux Kernel.org has a Kernel Update. As a newbie I'm presuming
that the Kernel Update is for all Linux Distros? Whether it be Ubuntu,
Debian, Xandros, Hardhat, Redneck, PClinos, etc. Just a thought?
Sounds promising. Thanks again. I'll try to post feedback as we go.
