Hello Everybody,
I've been looking at LinuxBios for a few weeks and now have decided to try
it. With a friend, we are actually trying to build a home MP3/audio cd
player/encoder/burner. (non uptodate site here
: http://omm.sourceforge.net/ ).
Actually we are running on a standard mother board with an IDE FlashDisk
for the system.
I think linuxbios could allow us to put all our soft directly in a
DiskonChip in the place of the bios's e2prom & hae the whole system
starting very fast.
1- I ve got one little "problem" to begin : I need to choose the right
motherboard & the right DOC (as we dont have to much money to be able to
make a mistakeon this point ;-)).
>From the SiS website, I've selected a few motherboards and would like to
know which one would you recommend to me (I'm in France so it would be
great if I could find this MB at least in Europe). So do you have any
experience with the following motherboards ?
manufacturer : model : chipset+I/O+bios package
Leadtek : Winfast 6300 : 630+950+DIP Bios : seems not to be distributed in
France (don't know in Europe)
Elite : P6SSM : 630+950+DIP Bios (modem seems to be supported by PCT0211
module : http://linnix.com)
Chaintech : CT 6SFV : 630+950+DIP Bios
Soyo : SY-7SWM : 630+???+DIP Bios
GVC : DR725 : 630+950+seems to have PLCC Bios, 3com LAN ?
Same question for the DOC (we will need between 4 & 8 Mb of space for the
OS & software). Are there only DIP package DOC ? Is there any other DOC
manufacturer than M-System ?
2- Which are the peripherals of these motherboard which are running fine
under linux ? In our project, we need LAN, Audio in/out and eventually
modem.
Thank you very much for your help
Eric
