We just found out something funny about DoC. Basically, you can reprogram
it, but for the reprogramming to affect the IPL area, you MUST cycle
power.
So, this explains lots of weird problems we have had. The part is
programmed, but you hit reset, and it acts like the IPL area was not
reprogrammed. This is of course a disaster if you start from an erased
part. This explains my occasional "programming didn't stick" comments. I
just wasted a day on this. Ollie calls this a "noble experience." I want
to be less noble!
It makes sense if you think about how the IPL area is initialized from
FLASH. Makes me wonder: can I read other data into the IPL area. If so, we
could get around the 512 byte limitation by using overlays.
We've verified this a few times this afternoon. So, once you program a
DOC, cycle power. Or take it out of the socket, same effect :-)
Now I can go back to testing Ollie's latest VGA code :-)
