docipl question

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but the docipl.S
does not switch to protected mode, leaving linuxbios
to do this after it done ram init and copied linuxbios into ram?

Wouldn't this be desirable, and couldn't the GDT be put into
the IPL area? or is it too full already.
