The two common modes are 'True IDE' where you plug it into a real IDE port, 
and PCMCIA-IDE, where you plug it into a PCMCIA socket.

CF _sockets_ are just a smaller version of PCMCIA sockets - you can even get
CF form factor Ethernet cards.
