Early into the weekend I blew away my shiny new XP1800+ processor ..

I heard a noise in my PC, and checked it out .. there was a floppy power
lead lightly touching the CPU fan (making a buzzing noise as the blades
rubbed it) ... but when I went to move the lead my finger hit the fan, took
a nick out of the end of my finger and broke one of the fan blades. That
blade ground in and prevented movement of the fan, so I took it out ...
Of course, the now off-center fan vibrated ... but in the 10minutes that I
spent trying to find a way to stop/steady the vibration must've been long
enough to kill the chip ... the machine no longer boots ... the POST card
says ...

etc

What have I done to my chip? Surely not heat? Could the vibration of fan
with 7 of 8 fan blades been enough to kill it?

I can't believe the chain of events that just cost me several hundred dollars ..
:-(
