Server.

Greetings from South Carolina

I have a bit of a problem and need your help. Please pass this along to all
that may help. Thanks

My Linux Computer: ( OK so I am not so proud to admit this one.)

Hardware Platform: Comapq Pentium 120 Mhz, 42 Meg Ram, 8.4 Gig IDE Drive ,
(PS2 Mouse (com 2 cua1)), (U.S. Robotics 3 Com 56 K External Voice Fax (Com
3 cua2))

Hardware Platform Note: This machine came equipped with an internal 28.8
Compaq Modem which I removed to free up an IQR. As far as I can see there
are no jumpers to recover or re-assign the com port although it is not in
use. (Under Windows 98 com 1 does not show as a resource in the hardware
profile table.)

Monitor: Compaq 1525

Software: Red Hat Linux 5.2

Software: RedHat Secure Web Server Version 2.0 with SSL 3.0 and Apache 1.3

Problem: linuxconf does not see the external modem on cua2 (com3).

Explaination: The server lines have not been installed as of today. The
local telephone company has never had a request for ISDN lines or so they
say.

A little Background: I want to use the Linux mail send receive program while
awaiting the DSL. My ISP is Internet Services of the Low Country and they
provide wonderful service. To date I have never had one busy signal and
believe that I probally never will. They also host my Civil War Site
http://www.veryrare.com and do a great job in this matter. The reason for the
DSL and SSL is to accept Cred Crads online for some of our rare books and
documents, and sales from our Poster Art site.. The following is a breakdown
of my reasons to go this way.

1. The Credit Card Online Companies are a bit gray in their practices.

2. At 35 - 90 cents per tranaction and a discount of 2.45 percent I can pay
for the Hardware and software within a few months. ( My bank will accept
batch transactions at a flat discount of 1.4 percent. They sell overnights
and recover their cost that way. In other words they use your money for a
few days before they deposit it.)

3. The setup cost of the Online Companies were quite high (100.00 - 450.00
per Custom page.)

4. With five on-line companies you can see that it only makes sense to do it
this way.

To finalize my thoughts I believe this is the way for me to go. Please
excuse the format of this e-mail as it has to go to 60 different people, and
several users groups.

Best Wishes,

Merry Christmas,

Martin

I rather doubt it. 1.13r10 is the last version on the primary
Linuxconf FTP site, ftp.solucorp.qc.ca, dated 10 December 1998.

on ftp://ftp.solucorp.qc.ca/pub/linuxconf/devel/redhat-5.0/
there is linuxconf 1.13r11, dated 14 Decembre 1998.
But i couldn't change password as normal user with older linuxconf 1.10.

Please check carefully what the Linuxconf main menu says at the top
when you run

    linuxconf --text

as root. Mine says Linuxconf 1.13 (subrev 10).
