Go back to the normal SSH?

Grab the RPMs from ftp.replay.com, or compile from the original
sources from http://www.ssh.fi if you prefer. It works here (server
and client, RH 5.2 and RH 5.0 upgraded to 5.1 and then 5.2).

Current Linuxconf dialout modules have a switch for whether you use
the patched version of SSH or not. Tell Linuxconf you have the normal
unpatched SSH, and use it.
