(interleaved responses) I would like to add that this is starting to
look like a database project. I guess it is time for me to learn
Postgres or MySql, eh? :) I may have finally found a use for some of the
free disk space I get from Ameritech.net & AOL. :)

That is a certaintity ... I would not want the list I am compiling to
get stale without some means to remedy that. A linux software list
becomes outdated while printing the first copy :) <It's a nice problem
to have :) >

What I have in mind is that each local language would create a list of
the programs available for Linux in that local language. StarOffice, for
instance, is certainly available in German ... but is it available in
Italian or Romanian or Portugese? I don't speak Romanian ... but there
are still people in Romania who do not speak English. For that matter,
there are a fair number of people in the US who do not speak Engish with
any fluency :)

The final result I am looking for is a grid showing such things as
1)name of program 2) general functional category 3) form of copyright /
licensing 4) emulation status 5)language availability (hey, some cool
programs may only sprechen zie deutsch or parle en frances <hopefully
better than I do!>
