Hi everyone.
I have been thinking about a time line for sponsors and this is what I have came
up with and details of what we maybe could get from them.
Also I have begun a spreadsheet of with the who, what, where , and when stuff
from the corporations.
Does anyone know of any project software for Linux. That would make this a
helluva lot easier.
Timeline:
Present - July 1(?) - Contact all companies/open source projects and see if they
are interested in participating in the project.
July 1 - 15 - Determine the specifics of what each sponsor could provide for us.
And submit those requests to the company for approval.
July 15 - Demo Day - Begin putting information into the hands of the LUG's via
posting to the web or having companies mail out information to each user group
participating.
Sponsor Participation:
Distributions - See if each distribution would be willing to provide a copy of a
boxed distribution that could be used on Demo Day. Then give away the
distribution at the end of Demo Day. Kind of like a raffle/fish bowl kind of
thing.
Hardware Companies - Basically just donate their name and help with the PR
aspect of the event. Such as release press releases concerning their
participation in the event. Maybe bigger? don't know. That kind of situation
could get kind of messy.
Open Source Projects - Just basically their name. Since projects really do not
have any funding to speak of I don't think they could provide any literature
(pamphlets) or anything.
Software Companies - Sames as the distribution. Copies of a boxed piece of
software that could be given away after the show.
Resellers (Linux Mall, CheapBytes) - Provide us with some of those cool penguins
or other things that also could be given away. Some of those bumper stickers
wouldn't be bad either. And also some publicity.
Large Corporations (Oracle, IBM) - Put that big marketing dept. to work to help
us garner some international media coverage, possibly. Like ZDnet, CNN, and that
type of coverage.
Any Comments:
Anything else anyone can think of? If there is anything I missed please let me
know. It seems there are a lot more Linux companies and projects that I keep
coming up with than I thought of originally. But this is just a framework that
maybe will help me organize some more than I already am.
Press Release:
I am submitting a press release to Chris DiBona over at VA Linux Systems today
for review/editing by him and funneling to the mainstream press.
The press release will probably be released sometime early either next week or
the week after.
