Hi guys,
I just subscribed to the list, although I've known about the event
for a while. I'm one of the guys that organized the Canadian Linux
installfest last year.
A couple of months ago, I spoke with Deepak about the possibility of
merging Linux Demo Day with our effort to broaden the installfest to
an international one (we called it World Linux Day). He seemed
amenable to it so I'd like to know how we can proceed.
We've already gotten 'buy in' from a bunch of Canadian, UK, US, French
and Australian LUGs (I saw something about you wanting more LUGs to
participate).
We had originally planned for Linux Day to happen on September 25-26
so it would seem silly for both events to happen so close together if
they weren't cooperatively organized.
We have a mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) which is about to get
back on track. I guess my proposal would be something along the
lines of:
o merging the two events (and maybe the names to just Linux Day)
o merging the mailing lists/web sites (Matthew Tippett
is our webmaster so I've CC'ed him [try to keep him
in the CC list] - the site had been taken down because
of a DoS attack against the hosting ISP)
o possibly extend the dates so that it includes a Saturday?
11-16 maybe? Although, I did like the 25-26 timeframe
because students have sobered up and working stiffs are
back from vacations.
o alternatively we could do Demo Day and promote the installfest
Day for a later time (maybe March '00). People might
have gotten cold, though.
What does everyone think?
