Yes and yes. Sorry about taking so long to get back to you Mike, but
work beckoned. :( Anyways, IMHO, there are several reasons for going to
LWCE:
1) Let our sponsors know that we do in fact exist and have this thing
well planned out. If we tell our sponsors that we will be at a booth
@ LWCE, I think they would all feel much more encouraged to support
us. As you may know, VA Linux put out a press release last week, but
it didn't garner any major attention and they didn't publicize it
much either. I think that's b/c until we show them that we are really
going through with this, we're still small beans. Having a presence at
a major trade event will show them that yes, we are 150% commited to
to doing this and doing it right.
2) Reach out to more LUGs about our event. Even though it's close to
the deadline at which sponsors will send out stuff, this would still
be a good opportunity to get more LUGs involved.
3) Meet with LUGs and share ideas on how to run a good public Linux event.
I would like to run a Linux Public Event BOF session @ the conference
(I'm assuming they have some way of publicizing BOFs like the board
they had at Linux Expo?)
4) Publicize this event to the media, and thus more non-Linux users.
If someone like ZD were to publish an article about this, I bet we
could get a lot of manager types to attend LDD at their location
if there is one going on.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Deepak Saxena
