Hello guys,

Sorry about missing the meet yesterday. And really sorry about being off
the list for almost a month now.

I had an interesting hack run on Friday night... setup a mail server for
the crn-india.com domain using fetchmail and qmail. Did it overnight.

This is the kind of stuff that I would have loved to explain at
yesterday's meet if I had attended.

Coming back to which:

I was nearly bored to death the last meet I attended when Vinod described
Squid configuration. Not that there was a problem with his explanation.
It's just that I hate classroom style sessions, and particularly hate
being taught something that I don't want to know (I use Squid but that's a
different issue).

My idea of a meet is where we get to show off our hacks with Linux and get
new ideas. Like this idea I just got for improving bash's Tabbed filename
completetion support. I plan to implement this patch sometime later this
week.

Pressing Tab twice for a multiple-match lists all the possible files.
Press the next character in the filename and then Tab again to continue
completion. This is easy when you're dealing with dictionary names, but
faced with an incomprehensible alphanumeric name like qmail's log files,
you end up peering at the filename carefully to find the next character.
My idea is to simply highlight this character (bold or underlined) so
that it immediately becomes apparent.

Maybe somebody else can improve on this or find a better solution. Meets
are where we should be discussing such things.

I plan to write myself a window manager that suits my specific needs.
Maybe others will have good ideas for this project. We could sit together
at the next meet and debate the design of the WM.

Do this at a meet and I'll drop my work so that I can attend. But start
delivering boring lectures, and I'll end up making excuses for keeping
away.

These of course are my memes. If you have some, I'd like copies, but
please do not add any more drivel to my already overflowing mailbox.

PS: No offence directed at you, Vinod. I did gain some useful knowledge on
configuring Squid during that session. I'm also serious about the WM
project, so guys start pumping the idea machine right away.
