Hi people
This is exactly my problem. most cable companies are taking bandwidths
of 128kbps and connecting 100-300 people on a LAN. in the evenings when a
lot of people sit on the net say 150 of them so with a contention ratio of
1:10 which is quite reasonable 15 of them are actually accessing the server
at the same time. so
128/15 = 8.5kbps would be the actual speed. Which I am anyway getting.
Another thing are they using encrypted packets ? If they are not then
corporates should bother less about speed and more about security
since *it* is a LAN. And industrial spying using the NET is not far away.
This may seem a rather far fetched stuff but how many of you actually
encrypt your mails ? In a LAN IP packets from some other machine can be
intercepted saved and then sent so the packet is received at the
destination. If you want more details
they are available on the net
Hope I haven't wasted your time
regards
Aditya
