lilo!!! when you run lilo, the location of the root partition is written
to the MBR.  mount requires fstab to figure out which partition goes
where.  As far as root goes, it knows where it has to go.  All it needs is
to figure out where the root partition is, and that is written by lilo to
the MBR.
