[ILUG-BOM] Scanner, Printer, lp

To start with, Im a newbie. And I cant get my printer/scanner to work. A
book I am going through says I should see if I have lp0 or lp1 in
/proc/devices .  I dont. How do I "Install" my parallel port to get these
things working?
