No problem there, I intend to backup RSN anyway. I heard various stories:
. the upgrade hangs
. the upgrade proceeds, but things break afterwards (xterms, stuff)
. config files may break (you just said that)
How about if I manually upgrade various modules/apps/utils/libs?
(I do know the danger of upgrading libc)
