K.. I found a way to solve the Pine problem (not writing the From: lines
correctly)

I now use something called eyep.net, which is like dyndns.org or myip.org
- dynamic dns provider, with a difference. It allows you to be the
authoritative nameserver for your hostname and all below it.

So I went about and configured my local nameserver to be more than a
caching-only nameserver. It is now the auth nameserver for *.bits.fuhq.net
and handles it's own mail. I setup my MTA (Qmail) to accept mail for this
domain as well. Next, update the IP with eyep.net.

Then I went to a web-based email provider and emailed myself at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and waited...

Nothing.

(hope)
(more hope)
(losing hope)

RD light starts flickering. I check the log... mail coming in from
outside, without using fetchmail :))

Now for the bad bits:

This won't work unless you're on the net at or around the time the mail
was sent. However, it just might work if you go online frequently enough
and for enough time per connection <g>

I think sendmail keeps trying to send mail for 4 days and then gives up
with a bounce, so I do have some window of opportunity. I'll be trying to
send myself mails from outside for the next few days and continue with my
usual routine of collecting mail and surfing. Lets see how many mails I
get and how many I miss.

The permanent fix:

Set a secondary nameserver and have your web-hosting friend accept mail
for your dynamic hostname and dump to a POP box, so even if you're
offline, mail will go thru to the secondary MX and get stored.

All this because of a darn From: line :)
