The timeouts of sendmail are defined in the config file
(/etc/mail/sendmail.cf in the latest version). For example, in one of my
machines it looks like the following:
# timeouts (many of these)
#lost of deleted lines.......
O Timeout.queuereturn=5d
O Timeout.queuewarn=4h
It warns the users if it cannot send mail after 4 hours, and it
tries for 5 days. Many sites providing free email accounts have much
smaller timeouts. I have changed the warning times in some machines in
my system; users think that the mail has bounced back, so I put a bigger
time (about one day).
